We were truly honoured to receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service from the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne in front of many of our supporters, family and friends.
Thank you to the BBC for coming down to meet some of the guys and helping us promote Mankind to a wider audience.
A man from Eastbourne said joining a cold water swimming group changed his life after struggling with his mental health.
Cold Club, which runs cold water swimming sessions for men at Eastbourne beach all year round, is an offshoot of men’s mental health charity Mankind.
John Kirby said the charity provides a “safe space” for men to talk, which has been “amazing” for him.
This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE!
Mankind is one of just 281 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year.
Toby Simmons not only ran the gruelling Beachy Head Marathon yesterday but swam a 1.9km sea swim and completed a 90km cycle ride immediately BEFORE the run itself! He crossed the finish line in just under 5 hours!
